Why I recommend this place to visitors  — 4 weeks ago

    Worth visiting!

If you love any kind of art, you will love Detroit. If you love modern history, you will love Detroit. If you like finding little gems of culture in unlikely spots, you will love Detroit. I lived in Detroit for 25 years, and I still miss it. Visit the museums, visit Belle Isle, wander around the Riverfront and admire the gorgeous architecture. It is well worth the visit.

I grew up here and somewhere I recommend near Detroit is Downtown Royal Oak. Culturally diverse and beautiful. Fairly cheap too.

This is where I grew up. I love that every time someone hears that they say “Oh – she’s from Detroit – she must be tough!”

All summer we enjoy festival after festival, and on the weekends there are no festivals there are always free concerts around town. These are not the average local band shows though. In the last two years, for instance, I saw, (for free if you park in Greektown Casino and get your parking validated) dickie betts, grand funk, stanley jordan, styx, asia, bad company, puddle of mudd, blue oyster cult, collective union of souls (sp), taj mahal, james cotton, funk brothers, sponge, rascal flatts, the largest fireworks display in north america, unlimited hydroplane races, the grand prix, (some days I see so many acts I can’t remember), Larry Coryell, chaka kahn, dave brubeck, solomon burke, techno fest, b-52’s, parliment funkadelics, etc. I seriously can’t remember all the acts that play here that i have seen for free. But keep in mind, I work 60 hrs a week during the summer season so its hard to make all the shows. I would gladly provide any tourist with advice for their trip. Its the most over looked city in the country. And I haven’t even listed the shows that cost money. By the way, DTE concert theater almost always offers $5 dollar lawn seats all major acts, they just don’t announce that. This place really does rock. See ya next season.

It’s not nearly as crazy as everyone claims. Like every city it has it’s run down parts but it really is a beautiful city.

I was only really here for some christian retreat when I was like 12-13 years old. So I wasn’t really there to explore the place. However, this is the place where a bunch of us walked through a taco bell drive through. We all acted like we were driving in a car cause the inside was closed, our hotel was across the street, and we all wanted taco bell!! The guy thought we were nuts. lol.

I’ve lived in Detroit all my life. Yeah it’s a dangerous place but I don’t think it’s anymore dangerous the places like New York or Chicago. You’d be an idiot to go walking around in the “getto” at night but that goes for any city.
Downtown is pretty awesome I guess, we have a bunch of new openings and stuff. I can’t say much about the casinos we have (Motorcity, and GreekTown) considering I’m not old enough to get in.
The most proudest moment in my life here in Detroit was when Wrestlemania came to the Joe Louis. Man that was something. Other than that there isn’t much else to say.
