The city is not a total dump as some people have said… I think the people who live here have more of a right to make that decision because I’ve been to all areas over a long period of time. There are awesome areas and places like the Forks that are fun to go to. I live on a beautiful street in the south end, which is generally a nicer area than central, north, and west winnipeg.. but yeah still I think it’s ok to live in, but not to spend money on to travel to just to come here

My mum’s from here, so I’ve been travelling here since i was a baby, and I’ve always loved it.
The people are so friendly, and despite being a small city there is still plenty to do.
I try to come here every year, and i look forward to it everytime. I’d love to live here one day.

I think any ‘Pegger will tell you that their city’s geographic isolation has led them to develop a very unique and independent culture. The city is unlike anywhere else on the North American plains in that it’s urban history reaches way back into the early 1800’s. I would definetely check out the Manitoba Museum of Man and Nature (my absolute favorite natural history museum!) It might be a good idea to check out some of the Ukrainian cultural fare such as Alycia’s restaurant, and maybe drive out of town into the Mennonite townships. Also Osborne village is a great place for the alternative crowd- a definite “college/artisan/hippie/punk/anarchist” feel to the neighborhood. Winnipeg’s physical isolation has unfortunately also led to an inferiority complex amongst Manitoban’s who, “pound for pound,” might be about the friendliest and most laid back people you will ever meet. I think those who don’t like the ‘Peg just “don’t get” Manitoba. It is a very unique province with a culture that is all it’s own. Oh, and the girls in Winnipeg are beautiful

Does being born in Winnipeg count as a place I travelled too?? I just like seeing my globe turn blue to show all the places I’ve been to!

Had two work trips to Winnipeg over the years. I remember eating really well – Swiss, Chinese, Japanese, etc. There seemed to be no shortage of great restaurants. Nice, medium-sized city, but a little off the beaten path.

A fall ago, I took a leisurely trip north through Minnesota, and we decided to visit Winnipeg, not knowing much about the city. It was certainly a wonderful surprise. Spending some days camping, we had our dog with us, and it was very nice how easy it was to find a nice hotel that was happy to include her in the room, unlike the US, it seems. We spent several days exploring the city, and had a lot of fun at the Forks Market, as well as a very nice tea house located in a historic Captain’s home a few miles north of Winnipeg. Altogether, it was a very nice experience.

I’ve been here a few times. It’s nothing great, but at least worth checking out. The only downside is that there is nothing within hours of this city. There’s no “day-trips” to take. I’d recommend it for a long weekend, though!
