Beach holiday Soviet style by bagoly
During the Soviet era, Sochi was reserved for high-level government officials & party members- kind of a Soviet version of Cannes. These days, it is popular with middle-class Russian families who enjoy bathing in the heavily polluted Black Sea.
If you go, try and stay at the Radisson/SAS hotel. It is right on the beach, and has an excellent pool & sauna. Buy yourself a bottle of vodka and party with your friends in the sauna- it is not only accepible, but expected.
