Worth visiting!
Korea's Forgotten City
While Ulsan is primarily an industrial center, it does have a number of things to offer the potential tourist.
If you are interested in marine biology, a museum devoted to whales recently opened. Of course much of the museum is devoted to the history of whales as connected to Ulsan, so it likly has more about how whales have been used and abused. Can’t say for sure, haven’t been able to get a tour out there yet.
There are several temples in the city, including one particularly striking one on the road between Sam San Dong and Mu Ga Dong which has several pictures of the Korean views of the afterlife. The temple is called Jeong Gwang Sa. (Sa means Temple.)
One of the best reasons for coming here as a tourist, however, is that it is not a big tourist city, and so prices are reasonable for accomodations and food, but it is very close to several major tourist sites. You can easily visit Pusan (the second biggest city in Korea), Kyeongju (capital of the Shilla Kingdom and one of the most historically rich places in Korea), Tongdo (site of one of the three largest and most elaborate temples in Korea, also home to a theme park; Korea, land of contrasts) and a host of other sites.
If you are interested in visiting Ulsan, I am happy to attempt to answer any questions you may have about it.
