Samarinda

I grew to like this place after spending a few weeks there in 1995, while I was travelling around East Kalimantan on a kind of exchange. I remember it had good craft markets where i bought up big on souvenirs. I also remember that the taxi driver heard my request to go to ‘hotel hayani’ as ‘hotel andayani’, which added a good hour or so onto a 5 minute trip (i may be exaggerating here). I also recall spending some time throwing up in a bathroom here all night after eating KFC which was given to us on a tour of a dayak village. It was the only time i got sick in 2 months in indonesia!
