I was born and raised in this city, so I guess my view of it is somewhat biased. I have nothing but nostalgia for the city. Its not so much scenic as it just exudes a kind of passivity and relaxation that cannot be mimicked by anywhere else, certainly not by any city. For a modernized city, it has a pace that reminds you of the countryside. Everyone is mellow and relaxed. One can spend a whole day drinking tea by the river and playing majong and not feel like the day was wasted.
Some may find it bland, what with the gray sky and the flat terrain, but its one of those places that you will slowly fall in love with, with the kind of lifestyle it stands for.

I like chengdu because it is near from my hometown chongqing. In someway, they are the same, but in someway, they are so different.I like the tenderness of Chenfdu. In chengdu,i really feel the time is slower, the life is sweeter.
I used to go to jingli in chengdu, the food is delicious and more sophisticated than Chongqing’s.I must say.young people can not go to sichuan,it’s true.
but in another way, chengdu is too flat, not as beautiful as chongqing.in fact,i usually dream to live my life in chengdu when i become old.
As a person from chongqing,i like chengdu from my heart,i wish the local of the two cities will get on will with each other, stop quarreling on net.thank you!

Over the years I have been many times to Chengdu and everytime I go there I can’t wait to start eating hotpot or take a stroll next to the river.
It’s a rather modern city and it’s a pitty that much of the old parts haven’t survived the building boom but it’s definitely a city I can recommend. And while you’re there, don’t forget to go out of the city and visit the pandas (20 minute taxi ride from the centre)

Highlight of my trip, great food, people very friendly, not so many western people as in the more popular attractions.

This was a total suprise – a modern city in China! I felt as though I was in a city that should have been in Korea or Japan – didn’t seem Communist in the least.
I totally recommend a visit to the Panda research center (even though the $50 “donation” for a picture with the panda was a little steep) – the pandas are so cute! I also recommend seeing the musical JinSha – very interesting. There are also some very traditional homes one can visit in this city.
One word of caution – this city is hot! This goes for the weather and the food!
