Datong aka: 大同

There is absolutely nothing to do in Datong, except leave and see the spectacular Yunguang caves. They really are amazing!!

According to the Lonely Planet, there is a section of the Great Wall “15 minutes walking” from the Yunguang caves. Couldn’t find it. Could anyone else? Ran into some other foreigners in a bar and they also couldn’t find it after hours of wandering around the area…hmmm….

Also asked locals and they said there was no Great Wall around.

Anyway, still had fun in Datong despite it being grim coal country.

Although it only takes one day to see everything in Datong, it is definitely worth going to see the Hanging Temple and the Yungang caves!
