Boulder's Beach

Don’t go to the bit where you have to pay to see the penguins, just 100 yards up the road there is a car park and just next to this there were plenty of penguins just sitting around. Maybe not dozens together as you see further up, but a few – and free!

Spent a lot of time watching the activities in the penguin colony here. It was fascinating to see so many nests in such close proximity to one another. The nests were made from pebbles, which the birds had collected and carefully positioned to for their homes.

Interesting thing was to watch as one penguin would leave its nest to get another pebble, another one would leave its nest to steal a pebble from that penguin’s nest. This, in turn, would prompt another penguin to leave its nest to steal a pebble from that penguin, who was stealing a pebble from that penguin, who was stealing a pebble…. I think you get the picture. It was a huge population of penguins, all stealing pebbles from each other. It was rather humorous.

PENGUINS! This is one of my favorite places in the world! I LOVE penguins and I felt so lucky to be able to see them in the wild. Plus, the beach is gorgeous!
