Lanzhou aka: 兰州

So far, Lanzhou has only been a way station – somewhere to get off the train, and board another one, or a bus.

The first time I came through Lanzhou we had at least a few hours to walk around (and ponder what the chenglish expression “Handle be on worth” might mean!). The second time through there was time only for breakfast before boarding the bus to move on.

Sometime, I’ll be back to spend at least a day there: something about this city on the Yellow River near where it dives off the Tibetan plateau pulls me back, but I can’t define it. Maybe it’s just the idea of missing something…
