A tip I have about this place  — 1 year ago

After visiting the opera house, make sure you take the pretty girl for a walk in the orange grove outside of town. Kiss her without worrying about the consequences.

most of the houses are made of some volcanic material which is rather dark. leaves a strange (but pretty) impression.

Why I recommend this place to visitors  — 1 year ago

    Worth visiting!

I recommend this place to everyone, people are simply wonderful, cute guys and a excellent city for those who like the busy life.

A must attend to is the feast of St. Agata between the 3rd and the 5th of February.

I go there every year, it became like a drug for me, the more I go, the more I want to be there ;p

How this place changed my life  — 2 years ago

I was born in Catania, and even though i don’t live here, I love going back every summer.
It’s a magical city, sort of a ruined glory. It’s beautiful if you know where to go, lots of variety. And the food is the best food in the world. If you go you must try granita, the ice-cream and arancini.

    Amazing !  — 2 years ago

Oh it is awesome here! the people are great. i had a sicilian landlady and she was really nice. she would bring us food everyday… the house was tiled top to bottom in marble… is was beautiful. The paizzas were so warm and welcoming and the markets are just so much fun… remember to argue about the prices. :)

This is definitely a magical city. Tons of shopping and history always something to do here. The Sicilian dinner time doesn’t even start until 9 or 10 at night so if you are a night person this is a great place to go. The only thing is if you are not italian they will stare at you and keep staring even if you stare back!!! I will go back for sure. Sicily is one of Italy’s best kept secrets.

I lived in Catania for about a month, and even though it’s not much of a tourist city, it was a fantastic sicilian experience! For those who like to get off the beaten path and don’t care if there’s no mega-famous attractions, Catania is a slice of real Sicilian urban life. It’s a busy city with great food, shops, people, history, and nightlife… without tons of tourists or too many people trying to sell you crap.
