If you’re looking for food, you’re probably better off staying in Bologna, but the town is really pretty.

This is a lovely city. everyone rides wonderful old bicycles and the architecture is beautiful. There are many luxurious shops.

There are paintings by Correggio and a slendid theatre to see.

It is not cheap however!

Parma is obviously the home of parmesan cheese. It’s also a big center for horsemeat. I went here on a whim and, knowing no Italian, ordered “cavallo” in a local trattorio. Needless to say, best meat I ever ate. Only afterwards did I realize I had chomped on Black Beauty. Sorry horsie.

For the ham at least by zemble

I had to visit Parma for work and I expected very little. The two is small, rural, but friendly and it has a nice central cathedral – quite unique. The food was marvellous.

came for the proscuitto di parma, stayed for the charm-a! okay, that was terrible.

Parma rose in influence and power in the 16th century as the seat of the Farnese duchy, and is still one of the most prosperous cities in Italy. Upon the extinction of the male Farnese line, Parma came under the control of the French Bourbons. Its most beloved ruler, Marie-Louise, widow of Napoleon and niece of Marie Antoinette, arrived in 1815 after the Congress of Vienna awarded her this duchy. Marie-Louise became a great patron of the arts, and much of the collection she acquired is on display at the Galleria Nazionale.
