Nürnberg

I spent there a short time only, but it was – I think – greatest time of our trip trough Germany to England.

well its a small city compared to other German cities not so buzzing!!
U won’t get lost there…

I was here in 1984-1986. Beautiful city with lots of memories. I lived in Zirndorf where I drank lots of Zirndorfer Beer. Yum…One day, I would like to return on better terms. (Bad relationship situation). I still remember a little of the language and find myself counting in German, etc! Anyone with Zirndorf/Pinder Barricks memories? I worked at the Stars & Stripes Bookstore at the time….

I was not expecting to see all that much things in this city…
But it was the strongest Bavaria taste I’ve ever had in Germany!
There were beautiful houses + no tourist even though it was Beautifulllllllllllllllll

I’ve been here in pretty much every season. It’s a great town, plain and simple!

Great medieval town, spent many hours wandering around by myself…

If you guys are visiting Nürnberg ask some locals for some of the nicer beer-gardens, bars and clubs. A good part of Nürnberg’s nightlife is distributed over the city and certainly cannot be found around the castle. ;-)

Mostly saw the Army post, local bars, and clubs, but I would like to go back and see some of the sites around Nuernberg that make it so popular

At 7:30 in the morning I was wandering around the Alt-Stadt (Old City), with it’s city walls, towers and gardens. At that time it was deserted and I was almost completely alone (I kept bumping into a elderly man with a bavarian hat on, but he was very friendly and quiet). Later, big groups of tourists were racing up and down the steps and through the gardens. But alone in the morning it was like being in some book I read as a child. Had to imagine the stinky middle ages, though, as everything had been beautifully spit-polished, ‘restored’ to a pinky-golden glow that I don’t think it had even when new. It was a little like a stage set, but in exploring the tunnels, staircases and gardens there were some moments when I felt utterly delighted with the story-book beauty. It was peaceful, enchanting, and I had it all to myself! It was worth getting up early even after a late night. Go, set off early, simply roam around as though you were a child with a sense of adventure and I guarantee you will be charmed.

This was Albrecht Dürer’s city as well, although I recommend it for the old buildings rather than for Dürer’s house (now a museum) or for the tourist cult of Dürer which has been going strong for over a hundred years (however, the short film about Dürer in the museum was excellent).

if want so see some nice caste an city walls, see Hitlers Nazi playgrounds, come over for a stop.
It is not THE must see in Germany, but the two things mentioned above make it uniqe to some extend. If that does not attract you, skip Nürnberg or take it as a stop when you need so stay somewhere in the vicinity.
