Visited Essen yesterday. My main goal was to see Zollverein, so I spent most of the time there. What I like about a place like Zollverein is how our heritage, even if it is something like a coalmine is reused in a smart modern way. In the Ruhr museum you see prehistoric items in a 1930’s setting displayed in a modern way. This create a really unique museum and surrounding.

Essen itself seemed nice, but I was there on a sunday, would have been better if the shops had been open. People were extremely helpfull and friendly. A good day trip from the Netherlands.
