Magdeburg

During my second year in college, we stayed at Magdeburg when we went on our trip to the Cebit computer exhibit in Hannover (Hannover was supposedly booked full).
Lots of big buildings, and everything looked so grey and dreary to me… Granted, it was february, but the overall look was very depressive. We went to see the Magdenburg spheres (physics) and a huge viaduct. At night, when we (students) wanted to go out, we could only find 3 bars/cafés in the entire city (walking distance). Hello, are we in Germany??? The bar we chose closed at 1 a.m. on a saturday night. Never happens in Belgium. Overall, dull experience.

ok. must clarify my stance on this city.

I’ve visited 2x to visit a friend here. It has it’s redeeming pretty bldgs and very nice parks and nice people. BUT… neo-nazis. My friend has had some negative racist encounters. And I got caught on a train full of neo-nazis (I don’t lie) on the way back to Berlin. Be careful and viligant here. Don’t expect anyone to speak any english either.
