Gorgeous little city I love it, It has this intimate atmosphere!

I moved to Lille in early 2006 and am loving it. It’s a small city built on a very human scale – easily accessible and laid back. It’s got a reputation in France for being cold and grey and dreary, but I don’t think it’s any worse than any other town near the coast round this area. The people are pretty cool, it’s affordable and the architecture is sublime. It’s a picturesque place, with loads to discover and a short distance from the UK, Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg…Heaven for beer fans, and a strong student population, with lots of art and cultural activities

Beautiful city with a gorgeous main square, lovely old buildings, good shopping and just a quick Eurostar or TGV ride from Paris.

I was a lecteur here for a year. I’m glad that I lived in Lille, but I don’t want to return.

Probably the most relaxed city in France but mostly worth living in, not just visiting ;) Vieux Lille is simply the best and worth exploring. My tip would be go there and simply ‘get lost’ inside this part of town.

I’m thinking of applying to do my third year of university (2007) in Lille on a school exchange. Any comments? Good place to go? Not as good as somewhere else? Fun place?

I have been here a lot and it is cool. I’m probably biased, as one side of my family are from here, but it’s my favourite French city. The old town is great, the people are less grouchy than in Paris and the beer is second to none.
