Bruges

Visited Bruges on a day trip from Brussels – very easy to get there by train. It was a sunny but chilly March day, so we took a boat trip on the canals. Yes, it’s touristy, but it’s a must do! Perhaps because it wasn’t peak season we only passed one other sightseeing boat. At one point we all had to duck down when we passed under a low bridge to avoid the long icicles hanging underneath it! An Indiana Jones moment – almost :)

Warmed up inside a restaurant with a steaming pot of moules plus frites. Perfect!

I REALLY want to go to the ice festival and it looks like 2008 is going to be my year. I’ve heard nothing but great things about this beautiful place. I think it looks like a movie set… simply stunning!

The Venice of the north—quite beautiful—I remember a sunny afternoon lunch along one of the canals. Beautiful art. The only Michelangelo sculpture, Madonna and Child, that left Italy in his lifetime.

It was one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited. The city reminded me a lot of Amsterdam, with winding canals and similar architecture. Overall, one of the best places to go. Good food, great shopping, SUPER nice people, and amazing beer. The waffles and chocolate really do live up to their mythology. No joke.

Absolutely charming.

I love Bruges. It’s the prettiest city in Belgium. It’s got a beautiful historic centre, lots of terrasses to enjoy the sunshine and great beer (Brugse Zotte is excellent, take a tour at the brewery for a nice glass of beer and a great view (first the view, then the beer… it’s smarter that way)). There’s nice little shops too, mostly with chocolates (which are also excellent).

I only had a day, and I spent most of it wandering through the city. Market Square, chapel of the holy Blood, Begijnenhofje, parks and windmills. It’s a perfect city for some nice sightseeing, shopping or lounging about.
