I’ll give Innsbruck a thumbs up because it’s a nice walkable city with a beautiful Alpine backdrop. Unless you ski, not a whole lot to do there.

New Years Eve/Day by mysovereignjames

Innsbruck. The capital city of the federal state of Tyrol in western Austria. A truly breaktaking destination; especially at New Year. I went there about 2 years ago at New Year with my mum and step-dad, we stayed with my step-dad’s brother and his girlfriend who live at the foot of a mountain: And what a sight it is. To me it seems everywhere you look theres another mountain right in front of you, almost keeping an eye on you in their city.

As New Year approached, we bought in the champagne and nibbles. In Chris’s (step-dad’s brother) large garden there is a pond which regulary freezes over around christmas and new year and this year I was determined to get a picture of me stood on it. And I did.

Months before this, we had dreamed about climbing up the nearest mountain and planting a couple of bottles of the good stuff in the snow whilst watching the fantastic display of city fireworks. Unfortunately, only one of these things happened. But oh it was worth it travelling over 865 miles to see this event. The best description I can give for the firework display is legendary. The seemingly unreal experience which unfolded before my eyes that night (or early morning, which ever way you look at it =D) was breathtaking. Colours I didn’t even know exsisted exploded and imploded over the city’s dark canvas.

Chris and Margit danced around to the Vienna bells whilst I stood with my mum and drank in the hypnotic sight, all of which was being recorded by my step-dad. I promise you, I will never forget it.

Very nice and gorgeous scenery, nice people and amazing atmosphere. I went here to ski and got 5 days of Skiing in at the Stubaier Glacier, yea my spelling is wrong, but i had a blast. I stayed at the Alpine park hotel, this was in 2003.

My visit to Europe was my one and only visit out of the United States. We went for ten days, and it was one of the happiest times of my life.

We were in Innsbruck for Christkindlmarkt, which is a part of Advent. And Advent is a big celebration in Germany and Austria!

This was my first exposure to a truly different culture; I grew up with friends from all over the world, since Atlanta is such an international city. But there is nothing like being immersed in another world!

Really, my first “foreign” city was Vienna (Wien), but I was so overwhelmed by the experience that I couldn’t really appreciate it. It’s Innsbruck that really hold a place in my heart! Someday, I will go back. But I’m happy for now.
