    Worth visiting!

Yes, I was born and raised here, till I escaped at 17. I don’t think I could live there again, it’s such a small town, but it is definitely well worth a visit. Summer or winter.

Capital of the Finnish Lappland  — 2 years ago

    Worth visiting!

Rovaniemi, located in the Southern Lappland, is the center of the northmost region (the Lappi region, “Lapin lääni”) in Finland. Being the largest city in Lappland and one the largest in all Northern Finland with its about 35000 inhabitants, Rovaniemi offers a wide variety of services. Being some 900 kilometers from the capital of the nation and 300 kms from the nearest larger city, it is only natural.

The city is also the center of all traffic in the region, offering convenient railway and bus lines together with the second busiest airport in the country. Rovaniemi has always been the “portway to Lappland”, no matter whether one arrives there from southern Finland or abroad. From the capital, Helsinki, a flight to Rovaniemi takes about 50 minutes and taking a train some 9 to 11 hours, which can be traveled in sleeping cabins, too.

Tourism is an important area of commerce in all Lappland, especially in the winter season, so hotel reservations should be made early enough, but there will always be plenty of opportunities to familiarise oneself with the Lappland’s mysticism and sceneries with the numerous program and safari services.
