    Worth visiting!

I’ve gone to college here for 3 years now. There are over 200 bars within walking distance (1.5 miles) of the campus. The people are pretty easy going and casual, but at night everybody is dressed straight off of whatever they just saw on MTV and ready to party. You won’t find any nicer people, and will often get waved by a random resident who just wants to smile. A Nebraska football game still gives me goose bumps, but maybe that’s just nostalgia talking now.
The bad… We have no mountains like our neighbor Colorado, so if you are looking for a physically outgoing place to visit, I would look that direction. But if you want to come to a place that is a relaxing good time where you are instantly welcomed (besides the bad apple or two that seem to reside somewhere in every city) then you’ll find that in Lincoln.

I lived here for 5 years. It was a good place to live in during grad school. But I can’t imagine anyone making an effort to visit Lincoln unless they wanted to go to a Cornhuskers game. If you do go, however, the capitol building is very cool and worth wandering around.

How this place changed my life  — 1 year ago

    Worth visiting!

I went to UNL for undergrad and basically became who am I during my time there. I came to school precocious and naive and left it worldly and jaded. From the best times of my life to the worst, they’ve all been here.

I’m likely one of the only Nebraskans who has lived in both Lincoln and Omaha who actually prefers Lincoln. That said, if you’re just visiting I’d steer toward Omaha.

Recommended: Husker football, Pioneers Park, Sheldon Art Gallery/UNL campus, Sunken Gardens. Restaurants/bars: YiaYia’s, Lazlos, Bisonwiches, Duffy’s, Barrymore’s, Bricktop.

I was here for the national rollerskating championships in 2000. Lincoln is the rollerskating capitol of the world…that’s about it.

I went for the International Thespians Society Conference, which was fun. Hot as hell here, though.

Didn’t really seem like much of a college town but more like a small agricutltural/ blue collar city. I was here for a week and it didn’t impress me much. If your looking for more culture or diversity as far as midwestern college towns go, then try Boulder, Co or Lawrence, Ks.

Worth visiting just for the amazing postural restoration clinic. An unusual reason, I admit. But it is also a fun town—I heard Of Montreal there last summer, the same weekend as Ribfest.

i’m originally from maine so i am used to forests to get lost in and oceans to enjoy. i have mixed feelings about this place. i love my friends and the things i’ve accomplished but the people here and myself are like oil and water. i’m used to neighborly people not bullies who think the world owes them a favor.
