...it was a day-trip by bus from Madrid. Not a long bus ride and well worth the hour, or so journey.
Aside from it being extremely impressive from an architectural and historical perspective, it’s even more impressive from a loose-yourself-in-the-past-can’t-believe-people-actually-live-here perspective. The town is one gigantic maze ‘o art!
The only knock I would offer is that it is so close to Madrid, thus easy to get to, thus loaded with tourists. I’ve nothing against tourists, per say (I’m one everywhere except the USA), however, many do make it difficult to navigate and completely loose yourself. I would suggest Segovia above Toledo in a heartbeat, but if you can go to both, do so.
