123882 steps to be exact, but who’s counting? Obviously, I was, and also doing the GPS recording thing witness the Google Earth image, but the narrow streets often made it hard to get a proper fix. I think I saw all the stuff Gaudí ever did (speaking of which, the Casa Batlló is good – it’s very very good, but charging 17,50 just for entry? Ridiculous), the Picasso and Miró museums, the parks, about every square meter of the old town, the harbor, the beach, all while drinking too much wine and stuffing my face with tapas.
The last time I was in Barcelona was almost 20 years ago and if anything this place has become more fun. And a little more expensive – but what hasn’t? If you shop around, you can still find amazingly cheap deals for just about anything you can think of.
Weird random fact: there were more Spanish people on the street smoking weed than I usually see in the Netherlands.
If you really want to do everything and see everything 5 days is a little short – but why not have an excuse to come back? Barcelona belongs in anyone’s top 5 of the most fun cities of Europe. Right, now to rest my weary, weary feet.
Me and my boyfriend went there this summer for a week. Sadly it was the one week with the worst weather forecast ever. However that might have been good after all because we had more time to see the city.
Definitively go to Casa Batlló. Definitively take the metro tickets for 10+ trips. Don’t forget to go to the magic fountain on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays!
“I'm thinking of going to Barcelona to study but a main reason for wanting to study in Spain is so I can practice my Spanish. Would going to a place where they speak Catalan be beneficial at all?”
