Korce

I went to Albania together with some friends who lived there. We were only there for 10 days, but it was awsome. I learned a lot about the culture, and about the history of the people there. We stayed with a family there, they had almost nothing, but what they had, they gave to us. They slepped on the floor with their young doughter, and my friends stayed in their bed, I slept on the couch. They couldn’t afford it, but they bought us gifts anyway. We said that they shouldn’t have done it. But not like when you get a gift and you say that as a joke. This time we meant it. They couldn’t buy dinner for a few day’s after we left, because they spent it all on us.

Also I went to a church meeting there, it was great to see that they sang a lot of songs that we sing here as well. Ofcourse translated. They also had a lot of new songs. I really enjoyed being there. These people know what it means to trust on God. They can’t do anything else. All I can do for them, is pray for them.

Korce was unlike any town in Albania when I visited it in 2000. Why? Clean streets with no rubbish.

We were staying in an old soldiers’ club, and I rushed out of breakfast to take a photo of a rubbish truck, an unusual sight in Albania at that time.
