Mogadishu

I was there as a contract security worker in 1989. Could have been a beautiful city but the tribal warfare of the countryside will never allow it to prosper.
The US Consulate that was built on the site of the old Russian embassy out past K-7 has, I understand, been destroyed since I left – I can find nothing on a satelite image that even looks familiar to the construction site, the old US comppound, or the MGTC (Mogadishu Golf and Tennis Club – sort of a joke)

I left Mogadishu hoping that in 10 years or so, it would become a livable and beautiful coastal city. Not much progress yet.
