In Ouagadougou. 28 1/2 years ago, puking my guts out on rotten food I got in Bolgatanga (I think) Ghana. Survived, and I still have the carpet…Probably the most cosmopolitan location with statuesque tribesmen in the same market as almost pigmies, Catholic nuns, and French bureaucrats, all in one place.
I remember best the lunch time siesta when all motion stopped. At precisely one o’clock the city filled with the sound of mopeds running about as lunch ended – like a million mechanical bumble bees.

Alright, so a coincidence: One day after I wrote that I wanted to travel to Ouagadougou, here I am, walking down State Street, when I see that the travel agency is advertising round-trip tickets to Ouagadougou for a cool $2,337! No lie.
(Sometimes I wish I had a spare $2,337 lying around just so that I could go to a place to say that I had been there.)

I confess that I probably would not have a good time in Ouagadougou. However, I have always had an interest in Burkina Faso since the days of my childhood, when I looked at what was then “Upper Volta” on the map of Africa and wondered what it had to do with electricity.
In addition, can you imagine the postcard possibilities?
...and so on.
