Port-au-prince

fist time i was there was very briefly in 1995, but i’ve been going back and forth frequently since november, 2010. it’s a hard city to get to know, for obvious reasons, but it’s worth spending time in. i’m the least patient human being on the planet and spending time here is like watching myself in a giant mirror with all my flaws and positives magnified 1,000,000×.

to know haiti is not only knowing its capital. you have to visit the " provinces " but, pap is a part of haiti, and thus is worth visiting… you may find it interesting, specially at night.

…All I remember was a house we visited and a beautiful beach.

Haiti is a war-torn country so everywhere you look there is poverty. Children starving, people hiking, garbage piled up… however, the most interesting thing to me as I walked the streets of Port-au-Prince was the beauty I saw. I didn’t expect to see it but it was there. It was in the breeze that shifted over the mountain side and in the smile of the child to whom you gave a bag of rice, in the voice of the woman who clucked, “merci, merci” under her breath as she held the bag of baby clothes to her chest and hurred home to her little one.

I couldn’t escape the beauty of that place and it will rest with me forever…
