A tip I have about this place
Don’t take a taxi from the airport – walk out to the street and get one there. It will much cheaper.

An exciting place to visit
Managua is the capital of Nicaragua. Managua has been the capital of Nicaragua for 150 years. There’re many attractions to see. This city has had to face many catastrophes in the past including earthquakes. However, there’s no doubt that one of the worst catastrophes Managua’s habitants had to endure was the eathquake of 1972. This earthquake took place at approximately 12:27am on Dec.23rd in 1972, measuring 6.3 on the Ritcher scale. This earthquake took people by surprise because many were still in bed. About 10,000 people died. Many years later Managua has recovered and is now more beautiful than it ever was before. Managua has many exciting places to visit. Among one of them is the Ruben Dario National Theater. For those that don’t know, Ruben Dario was one of the most famous and talented poets of Nicaragua. How do I know so much about Managua. Because i was born there and therefore it’s important for me to know about my origin and the city i was born.

men with AK-47s
probably the scariest plane experience ive ever had. the airport is in the center of mountains. the plane had to circle around at like a 45 degree angle about fifteen times to get low enough to land. besides being sick from all the spinning, it looked like the mountains were going to clip the wings on the plane. and let me tell you this was not a high quality plane…cracker box is the term that comes to mind. we stepped out of the plane and all i saw were AK-47s. every place in Nicaragua had men with AK-47s… folks, we aren’t in kansas anymore;)

But only as a gateway to the rest of beautiful Nicaragua.
Get out of Managua as quickly as possible when flying into Nicaragua. I was mugged there twice, once was from the front seat of a cab while we were waiting to enter a round-a-bout. Luckily the cabbie had a strong hold of my backpack, and the machete the theif threatened with was a little unwieldly to get near us.
