Incredible! by hunab

The Mayan ruins are fascinatings, and the nearest town (Copan Ruinas) is very beautiful, situated in a valley.

People are nice and I enjoyed a lot in this town, I went to visit a Mayan community at the top of a mountain, I went to explore the surrounding areas on horseback…

I just got back from my THIRD trip… I’ve been coming since 2005 and there are changes in the town of Copán Ruinas… for one, wireless internet is available in a lot of the hotels and cafes and it actually works (most of the time). Cell phones also work, too, but mine was VERY expensive. I love this little town although it is a bit touristy.

Marvellous! by Kenny Peere

Whilst not as impressively stretched out as Tikal in Guatemala, this Maya site is truly breathtaking because of its greatly preserved details and glyphs.

For example the hieroglyphic stairway is the longest text ever written in ancient maya, and every stone in the staircase represents a separate glyph. The numerous stelae are also worth examining closely.

I just got back from my second trip to Copán. The ruins are definitely worth checking out even if it is a bit pricey for Central America. I made some friends last time I was there so I spent two days with them before going back to Guatemala for the remainder of my trip. Most people in Copán are very friendly and genuinely good people… but like anywhere tourists are there is likely to be a bad element. No outright crime, but lookout for all the vendors and people offering you tours or rides that are not what you were expecting – many people are trying to make a quick buck.
