Why I recommend this place to visitors
Hello everyone,
why Holguin, Cuba? Well let me ask you something..
do you enjoy culture?
do you enjoy romance?
do you enjoy exotic foods and latin music?
AND, do you want to enjoy all this in one place?
if you answered YES! to everything than Holguin is the direction I would be heading if I were you. I am recommending it because it’s a busy little town with lots of people and many different things to see and places to go. If you aren’t afraid of being independant and taking a journey into a city full of mystery than go to Holguin! It’s wonderful and has so much to offer. Not only does it have a city in the heart of itself rich with music and culture but it has wonderful rolling countryside and an area specifically for tourists that will cater to your every whim. GO TO HOLGUIN, you wont regret stumbling upon this piece of golden advice.. it was the BEST thing I ever did in my life.

A review of this place
The city in itself is, in my opinion, not worth wisiting: nothing even remotely touristic, except maybe for the view, and nothing especially beautiful. However, I thought it was very interesting to see a bit more of how the people lived in Cuba, with communism and all. That said, I’ve only been in Holguin for a day (I stayed at a resort nearby) so I obviously didn’t get the time to see everything there could have been to see. If you want to go there, I’d suggest visiting the organ fabric, although it’s probably not what you’d expect ;)

I spent a week at a resort with my friend Carmen in 2002. We hired a taxi to take us into the city for a day. We shopped at markets, met a young Cuban who worked at a neighbouring resort and invited us to his parents’ house for dinner, then went to a baseball game. It was an unforgettable experience!

(Possibly) Worth Visiting
I stayed at a 3-star in Guadalavaca – the beach was really nice with lots of trees, white sand, and clear water but the resort left much to be desired. I did a tour of Holguin and the surronding area – although there wasn’t much to the city itself, I found it interesting to see what life in Cuba was like outside of the resorts, even if the tour guide was selective in what they showed us.
I wouoldn’t exactly say that Holguin is “Worth Visiting!” (I wish there was a neutral option) but if you’re looking for a nice, quiet beach then I’d recommend Holguin, although there may be other places in Cuba or the Carribean that have more to offer.

Not "real" cuba
Been in Holguin and Playa Pesquero. Very touristic and not realy the real Cuba. No old building, no old cars, no Cuban music…
