Familiar companies absent by sipes23

When I was in Quebec recently, I had a difficult time finding a hotel to stay in. It was as if the usual suspects for budget nights (Super 8, Days Inn or Motel 6) didn’t exist in the small town I wanted to stop in. And yes, I know, they’re in Montreal.

I later found out from Canadian family that many familiar companies may have limited presences or not operate at all in Quebec. Or have different business terms, etc. Almost as if it were a separate country.

All of this, of course, is wonderful. It means that you’re more likely to be dealing with small businesses and local owners.

Really a distinctly different place in North America.
