Tamil Nadu

Friendly people and lots of varied sights . . . also lots of poverty and not a whole lot of sites oriented toward Western tourists. Definitely a cultural immersion (we lived with a host family and worked in rural hospitals) which made it a very valuable experience.

Try and see some low key places. Mahibalipuram (sp?) was my favorite by far…shore temple and really great people.
