The first and so far only time I’ve been to inner mongolia was for a bike race through the grasslands, supposedly somehow related to where Genghis Khan and his horde had passed through way back when in history.

Biking around for those three days was absolutely beautiful and I still can’t think of a more fitting place to go for a weekend to get away from the craziness in Beijing (where I lived at the time).

I hear that it’s better to go late spring / early Summer because that’s when the grass is greenest.

Went there hischool senior year.

Wonderful view.. just mesmerizing to see such vast landscape. Tons of starts in the unpolluted skies, horses running around (farting, too) and the sky looks as if it’s right above your head!! The hut, although has some sanitary issues, is an experience you must not let pass. ;)

a vast area with sprawling grasslands in certain areas, and vast deserts in others- neither of which are densely populated (Hohut is the major city in this region).

Awesome place for a camel ride… the soft desert sand dunes fill the horizon.
