Faro

I backpacked through Portugal in the summer of 2005 and went pretty much everywhere, and this is my very favorite place. The locals were so friendly and it was little enough so that we knew our way around by the time we left but not too little that there wasn’t enough to do. I stayed at the Rosebud Pensão and the owners were British and absolutely lovely. While you’re there you can get on a boat and go to one of the little islands just off the coast and lay out, and the water is so blue you can stand up to your neck and see your feet.

I didn’t like Faro itself that much, but the rest of the Algarve. Especially Tavira. The weather was nice an nature was beautiful. You definately have to visit the cliffs, an island in Faro, and walk along the coastline.

I went to Faro for a conference. I particularly enjoyed the food (grilled sardines, yum) and learning about cork production in the Algarve.

Would like to know more about the Casinos here. Also have a preminition of an old cannon pointed toward the Rock of Gibralta. Is there still such a site or cannon?
Any input from anyone, anywhere would be appriciated.
