Most of my Italian visit was spent in Veneto  — 2 years ago

The region in summer is certainly hot and very muggy so be warned on that front—but the rains come quickly and can soothe and break the heat beautifully, and the sightseeing to be done, by car, train, bike or more in that region, the flatness of the valley stretching out for miles but the foothills of the Alps not far away, can’t be described. Just go, and remember not to limit yourself to Venezia itself—there’s much more to see.

Every Year I Find Myself Back...  — 2 years ago

Venice rarely changes significantly through the passing years, but avoid coming during the flooding season during October. Also, the vaporetto service is a bit confusing at first, as no order seems to be present for the nomenclature of the routes, but following a few days you’ll get around fine. Touristy is often the adjective I hear when most people describe Venice, but retreat to the Lido or backallies away from the places that are the destinations for the tourist guide arrows scribbed on numerous walls( “Venetian directions” – my mother circa three years ago) and peace, true Italian flavor and charm, and the intriguing Venetian tounge are sure to be found in the urban sanctuary of my ancestors.
