Salzburg is a nice town. I’d leave it out of most trip itineraries, however, as it’s not all that interesting. The best feature is the old city center, which is charming and easily walkable. But you can get a more remarkable old-city experience in, say, Venice.
I preferred nearby Innsbruck to Salzburg because of the picturesque Alps.
If you decide to try the Mozartkugeln the originals come from the Fürst cafe (there are several around the city center). They have a blue and silver wrapper. I’m told they have more marzipan in them than the others. I’d recommend the champagne truffles instead – I pick some up every time I visit.
“I'll probably be visiting Salzburg for 5 days. I'm looking for some nice and quiet places i can take my girlfriend to. We would also like to make a trip or two outside of the city. Any suggestions?”
