I was fortunate to work for a company with operations in Central Europe. We had a corporate retreat at Lake Balaton, so I got an all-expenses-paid trip to Hungary.
I don’t remember now where we stayed; it may not have been Veszprem, but it was at least nearby. The hotel was a short boat ride from the chapel at Tihany, which deserves an entry of its own.
My favorite memory is of buying a porcelain doll for my daughter in a little shop in the village below the chapel. I speak no Magyar, and the shopkeeper spoke no English, but amazingly I remembered enough German (from 14 years prior, no less) to converse, however haltingly.
