A rumor about this place  — 2 years ago

I understand that a number of the original inhabitants of Pitcairn Island were relocated to this island a number of years ago. A large share of the population here are descendants of the Bounty mutineers.

How this place changed my life  — 2 years ago

I was born there and lived there until I was 15 and it was the best place ever to live. Honest to god. As expensive as things where, it was the best place.

Why I want to go to this place  — 2 years ago

I want to go back to Cockpit Waterfall, Norfolk Island, where I broke my ankle 3 yrs ago (a great end to the romantic 10th anniversary vacation hubby & I were on).

I didn’t make it all the way to the bottom so I could walk to the edge of the island and I’d like to make it back to the carpark without having to be stretchered out this time!

Quite a magical place. A lovely place to tour around. Beautiful green hills, wonderful clean beaches, and amazing sunsets. You can see where Colleen McCullough lives (the famous author). Full of history, delightful scenery, their “norfolk pines” and very interesting and sometimes very sad cemeteries. Absolutely great duty free shopping. I hear some people just go over there every year to do their Christmas shopping. Definitely worth a trip.

    Fletcher Christian's legacy  — 3 years ago

Well I married a resident of this island. Most of the mutineer descendants inhabited this tiny island in the mid 1800’s and their decendants make up the majority of the population today. It is a tiny speck located between Australia and New Zealand. It is mainly a vacation spot for Aussies and Kiwis with tourism being the major industry. Strangly enough, some famous people have visited it, including Queen Elizabeth II and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Captivating. Mutiny heritage, penal colony heritage, subtropical, Australian, Pacific, mad surfing community. Rainforest and stunning beaches on one tiny isolated spot in the ocean. Magical.
