How this place changed my life  — 1 year ago

    Worth visiting!

I visted The Gambia when I was just 13 with my family. It was the first time my parents ventured to take me and my little sister somewhere more adventurous than the average holiday resort.
It was just incredible. The sights and sounds and smells will always be with me! The wildlife is amazing and the culture of the country is so rich. I’d love to go back someday!
Definately worth the visit for an ‘off the beaten track’ holiday!

There is something amazing about this place, something spiritual that just cannot be explained. I’ve travelled there several times for charity work and every time I have to leave it gets harder and harder. A big shout out goes to Tendaba Camp, about a million miles up river and involving a torturous and long journey along bumpy dirt tracks but it is so worth it. The Banjul market is worth a visit too, if only to show how different it is from the Western world. Arch 22 and the view from it is a personal favourite of mine and the first image that comes to mind when I think of The Gambia. I ‘d go back again, and again and again…and I probably will!

My girlfriend has family there and I’m going to visit them. We’ll also be busy with a project to help musicians gain access to collaborations with artists in Europe.

The holiday is all booked for february, never been to Africa before so I’ll be like a sponge soaking it all up. Looking forward to relaxing and seeing what Banjul etc. has to offer

Why I want to go to this place  — 1 year ago

I’m going here in October with my school to help some families in Banjul.
I had my hepatitis and typhoid shots yesterday and yellow fever still to come (eek!)

I no longer want to go and get stoned as I no longer smoke. I guess I could go just for the sun sea and sand :)

I visited a friend who was nearing the end of his Peace Corps service. I got the Peace Corps-style tour—local transportation, food, and pretty much everything. There was an attempted coup the week before I arrived but it didn’t cause much of an upset; pretty much everyone in the capital city heard about it first from the BBC.
