Why I want to go to this place — 1 month ago
One of my best friends just left for Niger with the Peace Corps. I would love to see her in action, and see what a great job she’s doing. :)

Worth visiting!
I for one believe that all countries are worth visiting but some are more interesting than others (Niger is not one of them…). The south or Niger, where Niamey, the capital is, doesn’t have a lot of attractions to offer and meeting people can sometimes be a little hard. But the north part of the country is really interesting and offers a great cultural experience.

Worth visiting!
The picture of Maradi someone uploaded under this nation made me laugh, because I’ve been there. Any picture of any city posted anywhere, I could of said, I’d been there. There are few cities in Niger. And even fewer buildings. Therefore the ones you do see, you remember. I spend most of my time where the people are. In the villages. In the dessert. In the sun. It was a hard country. A country of death, starvation, and religious bondage, but would I go back? In a heartbeat. The people of Niger are forever imprinted in the memory of my mind. Their love, their hunger, their cry. It was a beautiful country. Void of anything farmiliar to this american raised girl. Yet there is beauty in nothing. It’s a strange beauty. It’s a haunting beauty. It’s one I’m going to embrace again, very very soon.

I really want to visit Africa one day. All of it. But I might of been a bit subjective on chooseing this destination. It’s true that most of our choices are subjective… but mine was a bit too… Why? Oh well… There’s always a man involved, innit? :))) Just kidding. I was fascinated by a friend and I really wanted to see how is this country that he finds so alike Romania. Which i bet is so not!!!

My brother-in-law is from Niamey. My sister met him there when she was living there. I would love to visit to see where he is from.

My mom lived here for 2 years when she was in the Peace Corps and she’s always said it was the best time she’s ever had. She even stayed on an extra year. So I’d like to see the place that seemed to really shape her as a person.
