Qatar is OK by jbleeds
Qatar has been overlooked in the Western media due to the gaudy consumption in some of its neighbours (mentioning no names, but Dubai!)
In fact the place is trying to catch up with its even richer and better known neighbours in the region and there’s a massive construction blitz underway as it tries to build up its economy (consequently, there’s a lot of jobs in Qatar if you’re feeling the economic pressure back home).
The cultural facilities might not be as well known outside the Gulf as some in other places, but since the resolution of border disputes with Bahrain and Saudi Arabia at the start of the decade, investment has started flooding in.
I haven’t spent too much time here, but it certainly compares favourably with other places in the Middle East.
