I lived in Asuncion for a year through a student exchange programme. Paraguay is a special place to me but i don’t think it has that wow factor for travellers, you need to stay there a while, slow down a bit and experience the culture.

This is where I was born and grew up! Amazing memories of living in a small village secluded from the world. No computers, cell phones or technology.

It doesn't have the "wow" factor, but still special nonetheless by gopher646

I went to visit a friend who was volunteering outside of Asuncion. It was definitely a great experience and made me thankful for everything that I have back here in the states. I’ll be back for some mate and chipa, though!

discovering mother nature in rural Paraguay by capelo

On a trip to La Colmena in the Paraguari department, I found awesome landscapes with colourful scenes of urban life such as sugar cane plantations (quite important nowadays for etanol and alternatives to petrol), rainforest and waterfalls!

In these area of Paraguay, it is located the famous Salto Cristal waterfalls (70 mts high). You need to do a bit of a hike to reach them because it is just in the middle of a rainforest. The trip it is worthwhile though as the views are awesome and if it is hot enough you can even swim.
