    Not worth it!

If you are thinking of taking advantage of the cheap flights that go to Oslo, Norway – BEWARE that Ryanair’s flights do NOT take you to the centre of Oslo. After you land at Sandefjord Airport you are required to travel for almost 2 hours by bus to the City Centre.

Also, This is the most expensive place I have EVER been to in my life. My partner and myself spent close to £350 over the space of two days just eating/drinking/travelling. When we arrived at the airport, we paid £28 for a pint of beer, a spirit/mixer and a plate of nachos. NOT WORTH IT SOMEHOW!!?

Oslo is a beautiful city if you have enough money to not worry about spending, but this is NOT somewhere I would reccomend to Backpackers.

Planning my trip to Norway. Not because I’m going soon, but just out of interest, I decided to search the internet for ideas. I also think I’d like to go in the Summer.

    • Fly to Oslo. (Nowhere around here flies directly to Bergen)
    • Get a train to Bergen. (And then I can see some great landscapes along the way)
    • Take the ‘Norway in a Nutshell’ daytrip tour of the fjords.
    • Sample local foods in the farmer’s market.
    • See the Viking Ships at Bergen Maritime Museum.
    • Walk to the top of Mount Floyen through the woodland terrain to see the views of Bergen and it’s surrounding islands.
    • Go hiking and do outdoor activities in the Folgefonna National Park.
    • Stay up to see the Midnight Sun. (Or not. I don’t know where about in the country you need to be.)

How this place changed my life  — 7 months ago

    Worth visiting!

I was born in Norway, in an extremely rural part, called Farsund Kommune, in Vest-Agder. Its at the very southern tip of Norway. We lived there until I was 3, and we go back every summer. My old house was actually a working farm until we moved away, and the building was over 200 years old. Almost everyone on my maternal grandmother’s side of the family was born in that house, as was my mother’s generation, and my own. The house was located high high up on a mountain, and in the summer, July and August, when the sun is out longer, we used to sit up on the roof and look down at the fjord below us. Also, its pretty commonplace there to have a boat, and we, as well as most of the people who lived in Farsund would go out boating or waterskiing at like, midnight, because it was still light enough. Nothing like rejoicing in the daylight. There was an old shaman who lived further up the mountain from us, and he raised Norwegian Elk Hounds. He had one of the largest Elk Hounds in the world or some such nonesense. It’s just amazing that the olde culture is still alive and kicking.
