A tip I have about this place  — 7 months ago

    Worth visiting!

When you go, stay at a small resort – avoid the Marriott! We stayed at Timothy Beach Resort, and it was amazing. The Marriott is for people who don’t really want to experience the islands.

Also, go to Mr. X’s Shiggidy Shack. Ask for Kimba. And a mudslide. You will be happy.

Why I recommend this place to visitors  — 11 months ago

    Worth visiting!

I lived in a house in Sandy Point on St. Kitts for five weeks and worked at the Brimstone Hill Fortress doing archaeology. I have to say that is the best way to enjoy the island. The locals are friendly and the black sand beaches are beautiful. The buses are exciting to ride, and I definitely recommend going to the Black Rocks & seeing petroglyphs.

Taste the johnny cakes (which differ at each restaurant) and try the guineps (mamoncillos), too. They are sour, sort of like grapes with a pulp and shell covered seed. When we were returning from Nevis by ferry, a nice man gave me and my friend each a bunch of guineps. One of the workers at Brimstone Hill would also bring us kids several bunches throughout our work period.

Like the previous poster said, seaweed can cover some of the beaches, but it really depends on where you go and most commercial beaches will clear it up. (Turtle Beach is a wonderful place to swim and eat – tho expensive food. They even have – or had – a large pig named Wilbur that would walk around trying to eat your food, and monkeys sometimes play on the porch.)

If you’re an American girl, esp. blonde, take care – those boys will swim out to hit on you! Be aware that the locals hate the vet school students, because they don’t take an interest in local events. Otherwise, you’ll have an excellent time.

The picture is a view of Sint Eustatius, I believe, from Brimstone Hill.

go to sunshine’s bar and try a killer bees cocktail. also, if you can go during culturama, their national week of festivities, i would highly recommend it.

The ferry boat from Nevis to St. Kitts is crazy scary! It was so filled with people that I thought it would capsize. I actually felt that I was close to death. It was a weird calm feeling.

I went alone to St. Kitts in 1996 for a dive trip. The diving was fantastic and the water was beautiful. The food is good and at that time it was pretty cheap to stay there. Unfortunately, I can’t say how it is now but I’m sure the diving is still great.

    Not worth it!

Spend your money at a better Caribbean destination. The beach was only okay. Perhaps I went during a bad time, but it was seaweed central on the beach every day. The resorts are just average. I’d recommend the Turks and Caicos over Nevis, definitely.

St. Kitts is the most beautiful place with the most beautiful people. I was there for 2 of the best months of my life. I can’t wait to go back.

The best experience ive ever had. I woke up on a boat facing the cluster of lined up palm trees with blue water. It is the most beautiful thing ive ever seen before, and i will honestly never forget it!!!!
