Siem Reap was just amazing.. there are no other words to describe it. The temples itself was beautiful but what struck me most was how simple and pure-hearted Cambodians were. Please take some time to chat with the local people.. you’ll gain a better insight into their way of life. Our Muslim driver brought us to his village in Siem Reap.. we were struck by how peacefully the small community lived amidst everyone else. I left pieces of my heart back in Cambodia and someday I hope to come back again.

A review of this place

I think your view of Cambodia really depends on your style of travel. And unfortunately, I think we were unlucky most of the time. Border crossings are a bit of a hassle, but only if you don’t want to pay the bribes. Haggling for taxis can be confronting if you don’t want to be ripped off. It’s much the same for hostels and tuktuk drivers. Luckily our tuktuk driver was somewhat trustworthy and always gave us a better price than others.

So although we didn’t have the most pleasant experience with the locals, I still enjoyed it.

Angkor Wat

Hubby and I scooted across the border from Thailand to visit the temples in Siem Reap. Of course we saw the legendary Angkor Wat, and many of the temples in the compound. We also saw Banteay Srei, the Pink Temple of Women. We took an overland route (by bus), so that we could see some of the countryside as well. The rice fields give off a wonderfully vibrant shade of kelly green that stretches for miles. It was a great experience.

Why I want to go to this place

I’ve wanted to go to Cambodia as long as I can remember. I don’t know exactly why, but a big reason for it has to be the tourism – or the lack there of. I hate going to places where I feel like I’m right at home, surrounded by 50 people who I understand. I’d love to just go and explore, meet new people and have fun.
Me and my boyfriend are going to Cambodia in the not-so-distant future, but whe have to save some money first. We want to stay there for at least a month, and the airplane tickets alone is about 4000 dollars at the very cheapest. But we’re definitely going!

Skipping Over From Thailand

We’re going to spend a few days in Cambodia, mostly to visit Angkor Wat. Hubby has already been there and keeps taunting me with stories of how beautiful it is…25 days and I’ll know for myself :)
