The Emerald Isle... by DerJon

…is the PERFECT name for this country. From the time we flew into Shannon (one of the most boring airports I’ve ever been to)until the time we flew out, I think I saw every shade of the color green! We visited a friend of mine in Cork (Corcaigh), and stayed with him for a long Memorial Day weekend. We went down to the beach in Kinsale, saw some old fortresses, swam, played some American Football, and of course enjoyed the night life. Irish Breakfast is really something. That black pudding (congealed pig’s blood) was actually pretty good! I would definitely go back, there is still so much to see. Plus, I really enjoyed driving on the left and the people in Ireland were truly very nice!

So close! by ArmyAngel1986

I leave May 26, and I’ll be in Ireland until June 11! This is going to be fantastic, I haven’t been outside of the country in 5 years!

grr, i'm so pissed! . . . by cnytllcartel

i missed the deal of a lifetime. for the date i wanted to go, it would’ve been only 5oo dollars total, now it went up to 75o! does anyone have any advice on when it might go back down? i don’t think last minute deals work for summer travels . . .

Wonderful by Amble

I studied abroad in Limerick for about four and a half months, then spent about two weeks hosteling around the country with a friend of mine. It was really fantastic. Incredibly nice people, always wiling to stop and have a conversation. The cities were full of life and the countryside was absolutely beautiful and peaceful.

Imagine standing on the edge of a cliff in an old broken fort, gulls crying, the ocean sprawled out before you, not another person around in any direction. I can’t put down how much that image sticks in my head.

I can honestly say I had more trouble with the reverse culture shock of coming home than I did with the initial culture shock.

Beautiful, wonderful, and I’d love to go back and see even more.

Untitled by dubliner1013

I studied abroad in Dublin for a semester in college and it was probably the best 4 months of my life. Part of it was the scary sense of independence of being so far from what was comfortable that made it memorable, but it was Dublin and the amazing friendliness of the Irish people that put it over the top. The Irish are amazing. So friendly, so welcoming, so intelligent, so proud. There is an incredible sense of history going way, way back in Ireland that you don’t find anywhere else, least of all in the States. Go there with a stong liver and a sense of curiosity and you won’t be disappointed!

Take the DART by anesa_h

I’ve only been to Dublin – but it was fantastic anyhow. I truly recommend taken the DART train and going through the whole line – that is if you like scenic views – it is a great way of seeing it – and if you buy a day ticket you can stop off at all the little towns on the way – … Do stop at Howth and have some great seafood lunch … the best I’ve tasted … the seafood is really fresh …if you’re going north. Also, stop at Malahide – just have the great walk to the castle even if you don’t go in – you pass through a pretty forest walk, which kind of reminds you of a fairy tale path (except it is paved!) – and towards the south -whilst I haven’t been at Greystones – I’ve been up to Bray … quite nice to get off the train and have a bit of stroll on the beach. I didn’t stop at Dun Laoghaire – but I’ve heard it is a place to visit.
