Why I want to go to this place — 1 year ago
I met another student through University American Model United Nations Conference in Chicago who inspired me to want to go there, and regardless of the person- it’s GORGEOUS

I spent 1 week in the capital about a week before a military coup. Take care, use common sense, trust your intuition… and just trust and enjoy the people and surroundings.

I visited the Ivory Coast for 2 weeks in 2002. A friend of mine was there so I wanted to see the Ivory Coast with her before she returned to the states.
The one place that really stuck in my mind was the Basilica in Yamoussoukro which is the largest Christian church in the world. It was unbelievable. I was truly overwhelmed because it was beautiful, but it is the middle of no where. You are charged an admission fee to go into the church and unfortunately, the locals do not attend the church because they cannot afford the admission fee.

Well, what can I say… another one of those countries where it’s a real shame that’s it’s going down-hill… I lived there for 6 years, my sister was born there, I left my dogs there… an I really miss the place.
The beaches are awesome, as are the people, the local markets, and the food.
Cote d’Ivoire, get better soon!

Ten years ago, it was my favorite place on earth. From the huge white statue which greets you when you leave the airport, to the little shops in Deux Plateux, to the picturesque Grand Bassam beaches, to the Basilica to the Crocodile pond and to the coffee and rubber plantations. I loved every little corner of this country.

In Abidjan as I write this letter. Nice weather and good food! Was in a conference most of the time and didn’t get the chance to visit many places. People are friendly and weather is humid. I’ll update more when we I get back home.

I traveled to Cote d’Ivoire when I was around 8-9 with my parents, and don’t remember much of the trip, I do however remember Abidjan being pretty amazing, and traveling around in the market place near our hotel. I believe we also went to the French Cultural Centre.
