Pick a Name
I’m partial to Mediterranean, which is probably not saying a lot when you consider that Mediterranean cuisine could be anything from the lamb and falafels of Israel to the olive-oil-zatar-and-bread of Lebanon to the pasta and marinara of Italy to the paella of Spain. In the case of Biba’s, the Mediterranean leans toward Greek and old school Greek at that. At first glance, you might say this is a restaurant without an identity, especially if you consider the proliferation of names on the signs in front and on the menus within—One’s a Meal (Biba’s), Biba’s Greek Restaurant, Pizzeria, Greek Village Restaurant. Is this the perfect place to grab waffles, eggs, and bacon? Or a nice homey place to sit down to some stuffed grape leaves and souvlaka? Or an all-night joint to stuff your face on those long, lonely nights when sleep doesn’t come? Or just a friendly kind of place where little old Greek men sit around drinking beer and discussing philosophy? Yes it is. All of those. One thing Biba’s is not is boring. The food is tasty and plentiful. The atmosphere is as tasty as the food. Worth checking out over and over and over again.
