Judging by the picture and the name, I didn’t expect this place to be in the Galleria. It almost looks like it was snatched from some tiny Texas town and relocated to a strip mall. You can tell you’re about to get some serious barbecue when you walk in.
The menu is simple – brisket, ribs, turkey, chicken, and sausage. You can also get sides – beans, coleslaw, or potato salad. They also have a few kind of chips, and, if you have room, brownies and pecan pie. They serve their meat on wax paper, their sandwiches on paper plates, and their homemade barbecue sauce is in bottles on the tables. They’re not messing around.
Everything I had was delicious, and if you don’t believe me, here’s what Esquire Magazine had to say:
“As soon as you sink your teeth into the outrageously tender slow-smoked beef at the Luling City Market in Houston—charred and crunchy on the edges, piled high on a buttery roll, and slathered with a tingling tomato-and-mustard-based barbecue sauce—you’ll be saying, “Please, sir, may I have another?”
I’m adding this to my list of favorite places to eat, and I’m buying some sauce while I’m at it.
