Exile Island  — 2 years ago

Worth visiting!

This place is where people were sent by the Ancients to live out their days forgotten and in shame, on a rock in the sea.
It’s a barren, windy place that in the summer months at least, is lively and a great place to get a tan. Inevitably, every year there is at least one disappearance of a tourist—someone who wandered off one of the many donkey paths and fell meters and meters down to their death on the rocks below…
In spite of that, there are great hikes, and there really is a spiritual component that you don’t usually find on many of the more touristed Greek islands.

more beaches than people  — 3 years ago

Worth visiting!

stayed a little off-season (september) – there was a manageable number of tourists around, just enough to keep the restaurants lively. caiques drop people off at coves around the island – many people had a cove to themselves. the church on the hill above the chora had great views and was as iconic outside as inside
