Killeen

Killeen is only worth visiting if there’s someone you love there. In my case, there was. But it’s not somewhere I would just take a day trip to.

I was stationed there for 3 years. If your in the Army….do anything you can not to go there. The best thing is being so close to Austin, TX. Thats it.

This town is wretched. I have two more years here and cannot wait until it is over. The schools are horrible!! I lived in a run down, poor, sometimes dangerous neighborhood before I lived here and I really would love to go back. The people here are not friendly and the traffic is bad. Make sure you do not leave your house between 4 and 6 at night or it will take at least an hour to get down the road.

Take the Service road off of 190, most places so far that i’ve seen are on that road. Use a GPS if you can, will help.

ride the go-karts at put put, fun day… try to get kart 20 or 14 (written on the back of kart in white) these are double karts and you can drive them w/o a passanger as long as there is room… they are faster karts.

Coming from Germany and from what other military families were talking about Ft. Hood/Killeen, I didn’t want to go there/come here. In the long run, I came here with an open mind and tried it. Have seen so many changes that it isn’t funny. Schools really suck here. They teach nothing but that T.A.K.S. testing. If your not important or have money then the schools could care less about you, your kids or anything else. If your military, then they want that impact aide form back as soon as possible to get money from the government. They tell you how to raise your kids. Let other kids beat up on your kids and let them get away with it. The military is up the crack of your butt but don’t care when it comes to the soldiers health or the families. Majority of the businesses here see the uniform and think MONEY!!!! They don’t care about anything else. This place sure has made my family life more harsh than being in a country with no friends, no family, and no support of the military.

IF given the choice, I would run as fast as possible to get away from here to anywhere.

I hear it’s in the middle of nowhere and the biggest draw in Killeen is the Wal-Mart. But my baby’s there and I’m going to go see him before they send him over to that giant mess of a sandbox.

This is certainly not anyplace I would go if my fiance didn’t live there. That being the case, this (or a town near it) will be my home in about a year and a half. It was worth visiting because he’s there. :)

I went to High School here and I left in 1996 (Air Force) and for some reason (parents duped me into staying) I’m back, may god help me. I had alot of fun here when I was a teenager but, don’t come here unless you’re in the Army in which case you almost have no choice. If you like car dealerships (an un-godly amount), pawn shops, chinese food joints, dry-cleaners, moderate to slightly high unemployment (except for fast food joints and car sales persons, obviously), Army types who live at Wal-Mart, ridiculous traffic at almost any hour (maybe folks looking for employment) and duplex/4 plex apartments with four people over the age of 21 living together in just one, then Killeen, TX is the place for you.
