Gastown

I lived there! Very touristy, lots of night clubbers invade the place after dark, many chemically-fuelled people haunting the neighbourhood, cars should be armed: I miss it everyday!

So much fun!

Yes, it is blatant tourist trap. However, it’s still pretty interesting, and if you’re in the area, check it out.
It basically consists of little shops full of merchandise and few activities here and there. I got my picture taken by the steam clock, which I thought was pretty cool.

Around the tourist area is an enormous bum hang-out as well as some pretty dirty streets. That’s also worth checking out ;)

Gastown is a filthy crap hole. There is very little there that is actually interesting to see. It’s mostly cheap tourist stuff.

Gastown is really neat!! I spent so much money there buying gifts for my family!!

I found it interesting, but then, I find all sorts of things interesting, so don’t take my word for it. There are a lot of photo opportunities. Don’t go on your own though, and stay alert. We were approached by about 15 different druggies in just a couple of hours.

Tourist trap.

Gastown is a restored area of town. The major problem I had with it was its proximity to a drug users safe haven.

Gastown is one street. So my wife and I walked from one end to the other. We decided instead of walking back along the same street to move one street over and walk back. Big mistake.

Guys lying on the sidewalk passed out. Shady drug users standing around. Its odd to have a tourist area right next to a street populated by a bunch of druggies, but there you have it.

There’s not much to it, so if you skip this you won’t miss anything.

..and you’ll have a lot of fun, day or night. I won’t deny the more depressing corners of this neighborhood. At the same time, at least Gastown hasn’t seen many hints of over-gentrification. And there’s a lot of great stuff here… the waterfront overlooking North Vancouver/Lonsdale Quay, the Seabus station, the Harbour Centre (on the very west tip), all of the chinese restaurants that get intersected via Chinatown, The Brickyard, The Lotus, Sonar, and many other spots.

Its in Gastown and well worth visiting
